Biography

Hi there! My name is Aasia (pronounced A-see-ya), and communication has been a central part of my identity and self-evolution. Learning how to speak up, trusting that my ideas have value, persistently converting my abstract thoughts into accurate words: these are a few ways I’ve refined my own communication skills, and English is my mother tongue! As someone who’s learning French in adulthood, I’m learning that mistakes and feeling embarrassed are inevitable, that steady, consistent practice predicts progress, and that confidence and communication are inextricable. When I work with clients, I bring not only the theory of communication, but years of lived experiences clarifying my own.

I am a certified speech therapist, yoga teacher, and educator in somatics. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at Carleton University, a Master of Science in Communicative Sciences and Disorders at New York University, and certifications in yoga and somatic coaching. As a result of these trainings, my therapeutic approach is holistic, helping clients express themselves clearly and efficiently, while equally listening for the subtle realities that point to beliefs, habits, self-doubts, fears, and emotional histories that quietly influence who we are and how we are. My continued education in yogic philosophy, Non-Violent Communication, trauma healing, somatic release, and grief and loss support the fundamental reality that we are interconnected and interdependent social beings who require connection, authenticity, and compassion to communicate and live well.

My sessions are goal-oriented, with initial emphasis placed on growing one’s awareness of communication habits, so that the learning and practice done in sessions can be impactful and carried over into day-to-day tasks, both professional and personal. We can’t change what we can’t see. And we don’t know what we don’t know. So whether you’re seeking support with enunciating your words, projecting your voice, reducing anxiety in presentations/meetings, feeling more comfortable in spontaneous exchanges, or providing clearer explanations, I can help you get  results that are meaningful and lasting.

Outside of sessions, I teach yoga classes in studio and on retreats around the world. I spent three years living as a nomad (too many countries to count!) and learned first hand the beauty of diversity, both in cultures and languages. We’re all navigating this human journey in parallel, and I look forward to  offering an amalgamation of all my skills  for your communication transformation. I hope to work with you!
