Biography

Hi, I’m Haley! As a former competitive golfer and powerlifter, I’ve always strived to be top of my game. Just like athletes fine tune their skills to enhance performance, communication skills can be practiced and honed to level-up professional and social interactions. By merging my sporting experience with my passion for communication, I love empowering clients to achieve their best performance—no matter their communication background or goals.

I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at McGill University in 2017 before graduating from the Master of Health Sciences Program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto in 2020. Throughout my career, I have always found myself weaving principles of professional communication training into my practice, catering to diverse audiences such as school district staff and people navigating return-to-work following a brain injury or stroke. At Speak Fluent, I enjoy collaborating with people who are eager to enhance their communication skills for work, school, or social reasons.

All my clients come to sessions with a vision for their communication, like being better understood, sounding more assertive, or feeling more confident about the way they speak. As an SLP and communication coach, I help clients implement concrete, actionable strategies to turn their vision into reality.

Clients explore how tone of voice, talking speed, and word choice can emphasize their message in different ways. Individuals with accent goals learn that even slight differences in tongue, lip, and jaw placement, or changes to intonation and stress, can have a big impact on how they pronounce words in English. I also help people organize and present their ideas more clearly to nail their next presentation, stand out at a job interview, or feel more at ease chatting with a colleague over coffee. With a background in pediatric speech therapy, I also enjoy supporting children and teenagers who come to Speak Fluent with language, literacy, and articulation goals.

Although I’ve left the competitive sporting world, I still enjoy the physical and social benefits of playing a round of golf or lifting weights at the gym. I recently moved to Gabriola Island with my husband and daughter, where I also enjoy hiking, beachcombing, gardening, and sewing.
